Viton® O Rings

Viton®O Rings have a working temperature range -15 to +200 degrees C.

Viton®O Rings have  good chemical resistance to mineral and synthetic oils and greases, engine and transmission oils, fuel and non-flammable hydraulic pressure fluids

Viton®also has a very low gas permeability which makes it suitable for vacuum applications.

Our range includes British Standard (BS1806), British Metric (BS4518) and German Metric (DIN3771). We also stock materials such as Nitrile, Viton, Silicone, EPDM, Neoprene, Polyurethane and many more.

O-rings seal by mechanical deformation that creates a barrier to a fluid’s potential leak path between two closely mated surfaces. O-rings are typically installed in a groove that’s machined or molded in one of the surfaces to be sealed. Their rubber-like properties let the devices compensate for dimensional variations in the mating parts.
When properly sized, the clearance between the surfaces is less the OD of the O-ring. Thus, as the two surfaces contact, forming a gland, they compress the O-ring, which deforms the round cross section. This diametrically squeezes the seal, and the resulting force ensures surface contact with the inner and outer walls of the gland.

The Difference between FPM, FKM and Viton®

The terms FPM, FKM and Viton® very often cause confusion and lead to incorrect interpretations. All of these designations actually stand for one single base material: fluoro rubber.

FPM is the international abbreviation according to DIN/ISO, whereas FKM nis the short form for the fluoroelastomer category according to the American standard ASTM.
Viton® is the registered trade mark of DuPont Performance Elastomers.
